TIMOTHY DWIGHT NOTES & NEWS

WEEK OF 9/5/2023

HL’S PIECES

Dear Red Lions,

Happy Tuesday!  Hope all of you had a good long weekend.  For those of you who ran yesterday’s race, a huge congratulations for getting out there.  And a special shout out to Collin Robinson ’24 who finished in the top 50 finishers!

This week’s “photo of the week” comes from Vincent Zhu TD’26 and is titled “Welcome Little Sibs!”  Vincent along with Mathew Mellas and Nathan Ko made a large and adorable sign welcoming their sibs – Adrian Hoang, Gabriel Hartman, and Charlie Patton.  They inspired several TD Upper Years to follow suit with their own handmade and digital signage!

Speaking of welcoming our TD First-year lions… we had a great First-Year dinner and also gathered on the courtyard steps to take a TD’27 class photo.  Our wonderful photographer also took many pictures throughout the night.  Please go to this link to access the folder. You may download any of the photos for free.  If you would like prints, you may order and purchase them from the site.  Please use the password “TDC2027” to log into the folder.

I hope you are all enjoying the photographs of Liz Celotto, a wonderful New Haven-based photographer, in our TD gallery.  We are fortunate to have Liz lend her Camera Obscura work to be on view for the month of September.  She combines the use of a centuries old device (camera obscura) with current digital technology.  The combination’s unpredictable nature and quirks result in the painterly and enigmatic effects rendered on paper that extend beyond mere photographic documentation.

No bright toy
this world we’ve left you.
Even the wrapping
is torn, the ribbons
grease-flecked and askew.
Still, it’s all we have.

Wait a moment before
you pick it up. Study
its scratches, how it
shines in places. Now
love what you touch,
and you will touch wisely.
