TIMOTHY DWIGHT NOTES & NEWS

WEEK OF 9/11/2023

HL’S PIECES

 Dear Red Lions,

I start this week’s Notes and News with our “photo of the week,” titled “Dinner with Twoset,” and features our Red Lions enjoying meeting Eddy Chen and Brett Yang, aka Twoset Violin.

Yale was their first stop on their U.S tour and they wowed a packed SSS auditorium with their performance of Handel’s “Passacaglia,” arranged for two violins.

Fall IMs kickoff today and I have a feeling this is our year to bring back the Tyng Cup!!!  Last year, we came in second behind Pauli Murray and the year before that we were third.  So this year, there is only one way to go and that is up to #1!

Today we played spikeball and soccer!  Tomorrow will be flag football against BF at 4pm and ping pong against Trumbull at 8pm!   So come out to play or cheer on our team!  For more information, email TD IM Head Secretary Kennedy Wolf at kennedy.wolf@yale.edu.  IMs schedules are also posted on @td.ims Instagram story so make sure to follow our progress on Instagram!!!

I hope everyone saw that we are postponing our TD Fall Community Night to Tuesday October 10th.  If you signed up to perform, please still perform!!!  We would love to have your participation.  And if anyone didn’t get a chance to sign up, please take the opportunity of more time to pull together an act!   We will send out a revised link and form before the end of the week.

Here are some more important TD events and dates for the next two weeks:

Looking to explore New Haven?  Our new Haven Outreach Aides, Emily Xu TD ’24 and Julian Barrera TD ’25, are taking TDers to the Wooster Square Farmer’s Market.  Meet them at the TD courtyard at 10:30am to walk over together and visit a variety of vendors and locally-grown products available for purchase!  First-year Lions are particularly encouraged to attend.

Monday 9/18 6-7pm TD Mellon Forum Info Kickoff Session (TD House)

Saturday 9/23 12pm Brunch with Photographer Liz Celotto (Thompson Room)

An informal brunch to talk about all things photography.  If you have wondered how Liz brings together digital technology with a camera obscura now is your chance to ask!  To see more of her work, please check out her website, lizcelotto.com.  If you would like to attend brunch with Liz, please register at this link by Tuesday 9/19 at noon.

Without further ado, here is a word from Dean Mahurin…
