Notes and News – Week of 9/17

HL’s Pieces

Dear Red Lions,

With schedules turned in last week, I am hoping everyone is ready to start the new week with great focus and energy!

Our “photo of the week” features the TD IM ping pong team under the leadership of Alex DiMeglio ’20 (bottom row, far right).  Alex led our team to an undefeated ping pong season last year and it looks like we’re off to another hot start!

In fact, we are off to a BLISTERING start to IMs this fall!  We are currently undefeated after 4 events in ping pong, football, and soccer!  Whooaaaa!!!!  Congrats to our amazing team of IM secretaries –Max, Angel, Sophia, and Sebi– for rallying the college – especially Class of 2022 – to come out and play and cheer one another onto victory! There will be more games this week.  And this Tuesday 9/18 is the Cross Country prelims at 4pm!  Anyone interested in participating, please write our Head IM secretary at max.yuhas@yale.edu.  Here is another great IMs photo of our winning footballl team with captain Ben Kelly ‘22 (second from left).

Speaking of TD community spirit, congratulations to all the performers in our fall 2018 Community Night!  We had an amazingly fun and talented group of performers going from high drama – impromptu stomach surgery in the TD Dining Hall – to the hilarious Whistlepoofs – and the beautiful performances of all of our musicians!  Can’t wait for the spring 2019 Community Night!  Please go here to check out some of the photos, courtesy of Thuy Pham ’22 and  Kaitlin Cardon ‘19!

Interested in sharing your passions with high schoolers?  Splash at Yale is an educational outreach organization that runs two programs each semester for students from all over the Northeast.  All of the classes are taught by Yale students, and cover all sorts of topics ranging from The Geography of Happiness to Epigenetics to The Fibonacci Sequence to An Introduction to Skepticism.  Teaching is a small time commitment but has a huge impact on our students!  On April 7th, we will be holding a program called Splash, where you can teach one or two hour class(es). Teacher registration for Splash is currently open until February 28th. If you’re interested in learning more, please visitour website or email us at yalesplash@gmail.com. If you make an account on our website, you’ll also be added to our mailing list and will get a reminder email when it’s time to register for Splash! Hope to see you at Splash
