Notes and News - Week of September 14, 2020

September 14, 2020
Dear Red Lions,

I am excited to announce that we are starting up our virtual teas so please save the date!  On September 30th we will be hosting Soleil Ho, restaurant critic for the San Francisco Chronicle, and Shawn Levy, executive producer and director of Stranger Things, will be talking with us on October 7th.  Stay tuned for more details and how to join in these teas.

Many thanks to SAC! Co-presidents Maya Kerfoot and Makenzie Birkey put together a great courtyard movie night on Saturday.  If you want to help them plan more fun events for TD, please go to their meeting tonight at 10:23pm!  We are also hoping to find a way for SAC to do in person meeting in the TD courtyard.  In the meanwhile, here is the link:

Meeting ID: 966 5585 1508.     or.          https://yale.zoom.us/j/96655851508
Earlier in the morning, a group of us ran the virtual New Haven Road Race along the Canal Trail.  Excited to see a great group of first-years join in this great city event!

This week’s “photo of the week” is titled “Happy birthday, Samy” and is submitted by Froco Angel Mora.  Samy Santana’s family sent festive eyewear and everyone enjoyed cake in the courtyard! From left to right: Violet Barletta, Lauren Perren, Yingying Zhao, Gabby Montuori, Abigail Maher, Samy Santana (aka birthday boy), Grace Miller (seated), Javi Ascensio, Zion Dayne and Froco Angel Mora.

There is still time to sign-up for TD Community Night set for this Friday night from 9-10pm.  We are trying to do a livestream broadcast in the courtyard but await approval from Yale’s Environmental Health and Safety.  We have a number of live and pre-recorded performances from across all 4 TD classes!  We could definitely use more first-years so don’t be shy!!!  Please go here to sign-up by Wednesday at midnight to perform live or send in a pre-recorded performance.
Here are some important upcoming dates and deadlines:

Monday 9/14 11:59pm Deadline for submitting Creative Performing Arts (CPA) Award

Friday 9/18 9pm TD Community Night

We are looking forward to our wonderful Community Night!  Although we have to adhere to Yale’s public health and safety guidelines and perform on Zoom we know we can definitely turn out a great show as proof from this past spring’s virtual Community Night.

Saturday 9/26 2-4pm East Rock Hike with TD Graduate Affiliates

Please join our wonderful TD Graduate Affiliates for a late summer/early fall hike up East Rock.  We’ll assemble in the courtyard just before 2pm and head out as a group.   A beautiful part of New Haven, you will get absolutely enjoy the views.  We are also hoping to stop for ice cream or gelato on the way back at Nica’s.

Without further ado, here is a word from Dean Mahurin…

Àshe,
HL

At the end, he said, No metaphors! Nothing is like anything else.
Except he said to me before he said that, Make your hands a
hammock for me. So there was one.
