Notes and News – Week of 12/4/2017

HL’s Pieces

Dear Red Lions,

We are in December, the start of our holiday season!  To get everyone in the festive spirit, this week’s “photo of the week” features our Friday balloon workshop with Steven Glick of “Steven’s Balloons”.   I hope you all enjoyed the many balloon apples, dogs, reindeers, and Christmas wreaths that brightened our weekend in the college!

And special thanks to Steven for leaving us with this amazing creation in our Common Room!!!!

I want to thank our wonderful Alders, Abigail Roth (Ward 7) and Jeannette Morrison (Ward 22) featured in this photo for taking time from their busy schedules to talk to us about a wide range of issues from town/gown relations, the state/city budgets, youth and education services, economic development, and many more.  You can read more about the evening in this YDN article.

Here are our great events for this week:

Friday 12/8 Holiday Dinner (TD Dining Hall) and Holiday Caroling (TD House)

Please join us in the TD Dining Hall for this year’s festive Holiday Dinner!  Our wonderful Dining Hall staff will serve up a delicious dinner.  Family dinner protocol will be in effect, so all off-campus folks are welcome!  All TD first years should go to “Yale on York” for their traditional dinner featuring the “Parade of Comestibles.”

All TDers – first years on up – are welcome back to the TD House to do some raucous holiday singing!  This year, we’ll have a mix of singing from our traditional TD caroling books and more contemporary pop favorites.  And if you’re interested in playing the piano to accompany us, please let me know.  The more volunteers the merrier!!!

Saturday 12/9 Alvin Ailey Performance (New York City Trip)

Today is the last day for entering the TD lottery for our annual Alvin Ailey trip on Saturday 12/9.  The bus will depart TD at 3pm to give us plenty of time to get to midtown to have dinner before the show. We’ll have extra room on the bus to bring any TDers who want to spend the evening in the city, but not attend the show.   Please go to this link to sign up for the lottery.  We will announce the lottery results by Tuesday morning so sign up before midnight!

It’s hard to believe but we are in the last week of classes for the fall 2017 semester.  It’s definitely going to be a hectic week for many folks with paper deadlines and exams.  But please take it one day at a time!  And make sure to keep sleeping and eating!

Starting this Sunday evening (12/10) the college will transition into reading/finals mode.  We will be opening up the TD Dining Hall for 24 hours quiet study.  The Dining Hall will be putting out coffee, hot chocolate, and tea.  And we’ll set up a microwave station.  The college will be in Quiet Hours mode from 11pm to 8am every day until the end of the semester.

I will be sending out a full TD study break schedule later on this week.  So rest assured that you will all be well fueled and energized for these next few weeks!

Without further ado, here is a word from Dean Mahurin…

Áshe,

HL
