WEEK OF 2/7/22
HL’S PIECES
Dear Red Lions,
Hope everyone enjoyed Superbowl/Valentine’s weekend especially the warm, sunny weather on Saturday.
Our “photo of the week” comes from our TD Student Kitchen aides. They threw a lovely cupcake workshop on Saturday and captured here with Niklas Kniesche, Cindy Kuang, Hannah Shi, and Sam Christopher in the act of decorating their delicious creations.
And many thanks to our wonderful OM, Zina Anwar, and her husband, Rob, for spending their Valentine’s Day to help out with tonight’s skating trip. We had a record attendance with 150 people skating and we sadly had to turn folks away. We are working on seeing if we can run this trip again. Meanwhile, here’s a photo of Zina and Rob on the ice!
The TD Aides Team application is out! If anyone needs the link again, here it is. Please remember that the applications close on Friday 2/25.
First-Year Lions, you should have all received Dean Mahurin’s note inviting you to TD fireside chats to help us get to know all of you better. This year we really are going to be by a roaring fire on my patio and eating s’mores as long as the weather cooperates. So if you have not yet signed up, please go to this link.
Here are some important events/deadlines for the next few weeks:
Tuesday 2/15 5:30pm TD Senior Mellon Forum
Our Mellon series continues with senior thesis presentations from Senior Lions, Adriana Maciel Metal and Carli Roush. Senior lions should have received information to sign-up for the dinner and talk at 53 Wall Street.
Saturday 2/26 Mott Woolley Ski Trip – Save the Date!
Our wonderful Mott Woolley Student Council is working hard to plan a ski trip for this semester. For those of you new to TD, we try to run a ski trip every other year so the last time was February 2020, just before Yale shut down. We will hopefully pull this off. Please save the date for now and stay tuned for more information!
Without further ado, here is a word from Dean Mahurin...
Àshe,
HL

A Mark of Resistance
Adrienne Rich
Stone by stone I pile
this cairn of my intention
with the noon’s weight on my back,
exposed and vulnerable
across the slanting fields
which I love but cannot save
from floods that are to come;
can only fasten down
with this work of my hands,
these painfully assembled
stones, in the shape of nothing
that has ever existed before.
A pile of stones: an assertion
that this piece of country matters
for large and simple reasons.
A mark of resistance, a sign.
