Dear Red Lions,

Congratulations to the Timothy Dwight College class of 2020!   They are an outstanding class and we are so proud of all of their many amazing accomplishments!

We are honored and delighted to announce this year’s recipients of our prestigious Timothy Dwight College prizes.  These awards recognize those members of the senior class who have selflessly contributed to building and sustaining our community.  Their names will join past years’ awardees whose names are engraved on the walls of the Thompson Room.

Nikita Raheja, Gordon Cup (1946)

Awarded each year to that member of the senior class in Timothy Dwight who, by character, personality and leadership, and by participation in the activities of the University has inspired in others a devotion to the finest traditions of Yale.

Won Jung, The James Stewart Davie Award
Given in memory of James Stewart Davie, Dean of Timothy Dwight College, 1963-84. Awarded each year to a senior for outstanding contributions to the quality of life in Timothy Dwight College.

Cameron Wright, Thomas G. Bergin Cup
Given in appreciation of Thomas G. Bergin, Head of Timothy Dwight College 1953-68, by the Class of 1968. Awarded each year to a member of the senior class for outstanding character, wit and scholarship in the humanities.

Anin Luo, Charles Garside Jr. Cup (1966)

Alexia Rojas and Rachel Suss, Gerald R. Ford Scholar-Athlete Award (1977)
President Gerald R. Ford. Presented annually at Commencement to the graduating senior of Timothy Dwight College who in his/her four years at Yale best exemplifies qualities of academic excellence and athletic achievement.

Elayna Garner, Michael Manzella Award
Michael Peter Manzella, Class of 1993, touched all he knew with his energy, talent, and willingness to give of himself.  He was an accomplished musician and composer who also devoted himself to community work.  The Manzella Prize is awarded to the graduating senior in Timothy Dwight College who, through the qualities of kindness, dedication and courage, most inspired his classmates.

Olivia Tracey, Robert Kim Winslow Award
Robert Kim Winslow Award.  Given in fond memory of Robert (Bobby) Kim Winslow of the TD Class of 2000, loved by his classmates and so many others in TD and throughout Yale.  In his college, in the classroom, and on the intramural fields Bobby worked and played in order to share his devotion to TD and to give the TD spirit a special finesse.  The award is given to the graduating senior whose joy and laughter, sense of humor, and energy invite others in this college community to be happy, to dance in the broadest sense of the word, and to affirm the values of friendship and of our residential college as a place to play together as we learn to live together.

Michael Ai, Sarah Jho, and Juan Otoya Vanini, Timothy Dwight College Cup
Formerly known as “master’s cups” these cups were renamed in 2016 to reflect the change in the title of the Heads of Yale’s residential colleges.  The name “Timothy Dwight College Cup” more accurately reflects the special care and great devotion these recipients have shown throughout their years in our college.

In addition, we are greatly honored that the Council of Heads of College have awarded the following prizes to two of our graduating seniors:
Keerthana Annamaneni, David Everett Chantler (B.A. 1910) Award
Established by Mrs. Frederick J. Robinson in memory of her brother, David Everett Chantler (B.A. 1910) of Pittsburgh, PA.  This award is to be presented in the spring to that graduating member of the Senior Class who has best exemplified qualities of courage, strength of character, and high moral purpose.

Michael Najem, The Roosevelt L. Thompson Prize
This prize is to be awarded to a member of the Senior Class for commitment to and capacity for public service.  The recipient should be outstanding in the Senior Class for dedication to public service – service to “the team, the college, the community,” as Thompson expressed it himself.  Like Thompson, the recipient should exemplify great human warmth, commitment to fairness, compassion for all

We were thrilled to see TD senior Hannah Steffke featured in the YaleNews story on this year’s graduates.
