TD Notes and News - Week of 5/24/21

May 24, 2021

Dear Red Lions,

Hard to believe but we are ringing the bell and putting this semester to bed!  This is our last TD Notes and News for the 20-21 academic year!

To celebrate this important milestone, we are delighted to share an end-of-the-year video put together by TD sophomore Jade Chen.  Please enjoy!

This last issue is dedicated to our spectacular Timothy Dwight College Class of 2021.   They are an outstanding class and we are so proud of all of their many accomplishments.  So it’s fitting that our ”photo of the week” featuring our graduating seniors is titled “Here’s to You!”

We are honored and delighted to announce this year’s recipients of our prestigious Timothy Dwight College prizes.  These awards recognize those members of the senior class who have selflessly contributed to building and sustaining our community.

Kingrey Sullens, Banner Bearer

Lena Chan and Alex DiMeglio, Student Marshals
The two Student Marshals selected by the college exemplify remarkable academic achievement and service to the college and Yale.  Their special duty is to represent the senior class and accept the ceremonial Yale College diplomas from the University President at Commencement on behalf of your class.

Michaellah Mapotaringa, Charles Garside Jr. Cup (1966)

Spencer Johnson, Michael Manzella Award
Michael Peter Manzella, Class of 1993, touched all he knew with his energy, talent, and willingness to give of himself.  He was an accomplished musician and composer who also devoted himself to community work.  The Manzella Prize is awarded to the graduating senior in Timothy Dwight College who, through the qualities of kindness, dedication and courage, most inspired his classmates.

Robert Skoronski, Robert Kim Winslow Award
Robert Kim Winslow Award.  Given in fond memory of Robert (Bobby) Kim Winslow of the TD Class of 2000, loved by his classmates and so many others in TD and throughout Yale.  In his college, in the classroom, and on the intramural fields Bobby worked and played in order to share his devotion to TD and to give the TD spirit a special finesse.  The award is given to the graduating senior whose joy and laughter, sense of humor, and energy invite others in this college community to be happy, to dance in the broadest sense of the word, and to affirm the values of friendship and of our residential college as a place to play together as we learn to live together.

Timothy Dwight College Cup
Formerly known as “master’s cups” these cups were renamed in 2016 to reflect the change in the title of the Heads of Yale’s residential colleges.  The name “Timothy Dwight College Cup” more accurately reflects the special care and great devotion these recipients have shown throughout their years in our college.
We are delighted to acknowledge: Yasmin Alamdeen, Josh Beasley, Brittany Boyce, Jake Mezey, Allie Olson, Seyade Tadele, and Antalique Tran.

We were so excited to see TD senior Josh Beasley featured in the Yale News story on this year’s graduates from Yale College.

It has been an incredible year, filled to the brim with so many challenges that went beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.  But we cannot be more proud and thankful to the class of 2021 and all of our students for your support of the college and one another!

We look forward to the fall when we will welcome TD ‘25 and have all four years in residence in our courtyard again!  May you all have a wonderful summer!!!
