Notes and News - Week of 2/22/21

February 22, 2021
Dear Red Lions,

I hope you are all getting some good rest on our first official Yale “break day”!

For those of you on campus, I hope you are enjoying the Fryborg food truck this afternoon!  Next up Sophomore dinner!

If you enjoy these types of activities and want to see more, please come out to support SAC (the TD Student Activities Committee) at their Monday night meeting at 10:23pm.  Tonight, they will be voting in a new SAC team and encourage anyone interested to consider running (or cast your vote and watch the action).  SAC is in charge of TD study breaks, TD Day (last day of classes celebration), formals, and other fun activities like the courtyard golf party and movie nights. They especially welcome our TD First-years and Sophomores to join in!

Here is their Zoom link to attend:

Meeting ID: 929 7647 5290

To get us back into the IM spirit, I am pulling this photo from the fall from our last ping pong game as our “photo of the week”.

IMs start again this week:

Knockout (Ben Scher, captain) – starting on 2/22

Badminton (Jessica Li, captain ) – starting on 2/23

You can email them at ben.scher@yale.edu or jessical.a.li@yale.edu to sign up and play.

I think we still have some spots left for the Iris Run for Refugees – College Edition that will go from 3/1-3/15 when we are out of quarantine.  All are welcome to sign-up and run for free.  Please use “TD_2021” for your registration code.

Here are our events:

Monday 2/22 4-5pm Yale Break Day Food Event with Fryborg Food Truck (Temple Street Gate)

We are kicking off our first break day of the semester with some fancy French fries featuring the Fryborg food truck.  For first-years, juniors, and seniors the truck will serve up fries with a choice of 3 added toppings.  Sophomores, please see below on your event.  The topping choices include: Italian Fries (pesto, mayo, pecorino romano cheese), Philly Fries (braised short ribs, onions, peppers, mushrooms, and cheddar cheese sauce), and PoBorg (sliced andouille sausage, lettuce tomato, onions, dill pickle, and creolaise).  We’ll post the staggered service times.

Monday 2/22 5:30-7:30pm Sophomore Dinner with Fryborg Food Truck (Temple Street Gate)

Fryborg will be serving up a delicious menu featuring their signature sandwiches and fries.  Don’t forget to pickup your class gift!  Because of the COVID-19 restrictions on group gatherings we’ll have to do a staggered time slots for ordering and food pick up.  Sophomores who are remote or on LOA we will save your gift and you can pick it up when you are back on campus.

Thursday 2/25 4-5pm TD Thursday Snack Break – Chips & Guac (TD Package Storeroom)

Come on down for crunchy chips and creamy fresh guacamole!  We’ll have an assortment of toppings to go.

Wednesday 3/3 8:30pm (EST) Machiattos with Matt (Zoom)

First-year Matthew Merritt will be zooming in to show us the art of lattes!  To follow along, you’ll need these ingredients: coffee beans, milk (any kind), vanilla extract (optional), ground cinnamon (optional), and mini chocolate chips (options).  Zoom link to come on a future flyer.

Without further ado, here is a word from Dean Mahurin…

Waking up begins with saying am and now. That which has awoken then lies for a while staring up at the ceiling and down into itself until it has recognized I, and therefrom deduced I am, I am now.” (Christopher Isherwood, A Single Man)
