TD Notes and News – Week of 10/5/20

October 5, 2020
Dear Red Lions,

I am excited to announce the newest addition to the Balbarin/Lui family – our new puppy, Wally!  He is a wire fox terrier who was born in early August, so just over 8 weeks old. Here is a picture of the cutie pie meeting our 13 year old dog, Chloe.

We are giving him a few days to get settled and then we will be happy to have visitors to help him get socialized.  I’ll be setting up a Google Form for anyone who wants to sign-up to meet Wally on our patio.

One more piece of news… many of you have asked about the TD hammocks and we just got the news from Environmental Health Safety that the colleges are allowed to put them back out into the courtyard.  However, please know that only 1 person is allowed in the hammock at a time … unless of course you are one of the TD children.

Our “photo of the week” is from Robbie Skoronski taken from our Senior Champagne and Chocolates event to celebrate TD ’21!

Many thanks to everyone who offered their humorous and heartfelt toasts!  Don’t forget that Mellon fellowships supporting senior research are now available on the Yale Fellowships and Grants site.

Don’t forget we have our virtual tea this Wednesday with TD alum and filmmaker, Shawn Levyon Wednesday at 4:30pm.  For this special tea, we are planning to hand out surprise treats that will be familiar to any fans of “Stranger Things” between 3:45pm and 4:15pm.  So come on down to the TD Packages Room at that time.

And we are still #1 in the Tyng Cup standings!  Amazing work team.  For this week’s installment of TD Sportscenter, please go here and check out the interview with Noah Riley ’24 who is our Corn Hole captain for the season.  Please continue to come out and support Noah and everyone else who is doing their best to make this win #14 for us!!!

Here are some of our events for these next two weeks:

Wednesday 10/7 4:30pm Virtual Tea with Shawn Levy TD 89’ (TD Zoom)

You have no doubt seen Shawn Levy’s amazing body of work – Night at the Museum series, Stranger Things, The Arrival, and many, many more.  A dedicated TD alum he is excited to be back to talk about his latest project, Free Guy, and the future of film.  We are looking forward to our virtual tea with filmmaker and TD alum Shawn Levy this Wednesday at 4:30pm EST. We’ll be sending out the link with password a day in advance.  For this special tea, we are planning to hand out surprise treats that will be familiar to any fans of “Stranger Things” between 3:45pm and 4:15pm.  So come on down to the TD Packages Room at that time.

Saturday 10/10 11:30am SAC Mini-Golf Party (TD Lower Courtyard)

SAC is working hard to bring us an actual 9 hole mini-golf course to campus.  For now, please save the date!  More info will be coming later in the week.

Sunday 10/11 Haven Free Clinic Run (virtual run)

TD is once again sponsoring 25 runners for the HAVEN Free Clinic’s fundraising run on October 11, 2020.  TD Junior, Vanessa Blas, will be our TD team captain and you can sign up through the TD team page she created.  TDers should go to this link and register for the “Adult 5k participant + t-shirt” option.  And then enter this coupon code – tdlions20 – to have the entrance fee waived.

Without further ado, here is a word from Dean Mahurin…

Àshe,
HL

Success in Circuit lies
Too bright for our infirm Delight
The Truth’s superb surprise
As Lightning to the Children eased
With explanation kind
