Notes and News - Week of October 12, 2020

October 13, 2020
Dear Red Lions,

As we hit the midway point of the semester, I am excited to announce that we are still #1 on the Tyng Cup standings!  Championship playoffs start up this week.  So keep going out to IMs and protect that lead!!!

A giant thank you to TD sophomore Harrison Bushnell for putting together a great TD Photobook featuring the class of 2024 for our Yale Parents’ Week activities.  And many thanks to all of you for sharing your photos.  We’ve shared the link with all TD parents and you can also access it here.

Our “photo of the week” is from Franklin Bertelotti ’22 and features him with fellow junior, Etowah Adams, enjoying SAC’s mini-golf party.  SAC will be back in a couple of weeks with their exciting “Amazing Race” – TD edition.

It was terrific to see so many of you turn out for the virtual tea with Shawn Levy TD ‘89 this past Wednesday.  I heard that the PEZ and Eggo waffles were a wonderful hit!  We are going to take a break on programs to give the TD staff a well-deserved break.  In the meantime, you can check out this series of conversations hosted by Ann Miura-Ko TD ’98 featuring “Yale Entrepreneurs, Engineers & Innovators”.  We’ve hosted Ann here in the college for an in-person tea in the past and she is terrific – knowledgeable and informative on anything related to technology and venture capitalism.  In this week’s session she will be speaking with Scott Wagner SM ’92, former CEO of internet company GoDaddy. To register, please go to this link.

Please note that we will have one last exciting virtual tea on Wednesday 11/11 at 4:30pm EST.  Like the Shawn Levy tea, this event will not be recorded so please come if you can.  Stay tuned for more information on this last tea of the fall 2020 semester.

Here is what is happening this week:

I see you up there
blocking out the sun,
not quite stampeding
over the mountains,
storming to the coast
on your annual
post winter migration
to your favorite
north atlantic salt lick
temperamental and gray
every where
you used to be
even-keeled and brown
same earth shaking rumble
same herding instincts
still trampling everything
less than you down below
legs tucked tight
as if the parade of you
are sleeping,
vision sheep with horns,
you literally float
across the river___in the sky.
