Notes and News - Week of March 2, 2020

March 30, 2020

Dear Red Lions,

First many thanks to the TD staff and our student aides team for doing an amazing job keeping TD running through our very tough week!  It gave Dean and myself a lot of relief to know that the college was in such good hands!  Remarkably, we did not cancel a single event thanks to everyone’s hard work and flexibility.  Here are some photos from this past week:

And I hope many of you got a chance to see TUIB & other TD guest artists perform in their concert this weekend or solved the mysteries of sleep and are enjoying some good rest in your new TD pjs!

Our actual “photo of the week” comes from TD senior and Froco, Max Yuhas, who captured our seniors attending the Princeton-Yale game this weekend and cheering on TDers Azar Swain ‘21, Jordan Bruner ‘20, and Coach Justin Simon!  And you can read about the dramatic wins from this weekend as reported by Will McCormack TD ‘22!

We have a very quiet week as we head into spring break:

- Senior Mellon Forum is this Tuesday 3/3 and will be back in the TD House.

- TD Open House is also on Tuesday 3/3 from 7-9pm.  Go check out your future rooms!

Over spring break, we do have a theater trip planned for Wednesday 3/11 to see “To Kill a Mockingbird,” at the Shubert Theatre in New York City.   We have 10 tickets to give away for the 7pm performance of Aaron Sorkin’s adaption of the Harper Lee classic.  As usual, we also have roundtrip off-peak Metro North tickets for anyone who needs transportation.  Please sign up at this Google Form by this Thursday 3/5 at 5pm.  We’ll announce the lottery winners by Friday 3/6 at noon.

With Dean Mahurin out for the week and off email, please remember that Dean Mark Schenker and Dean Joel Silverman will be covering the Dean’s office this week.  Here again is the schedule when they will be in TD.  So if you have an academic issue, please make every effort to go to their office hours:

Tues    1:30-3:30pm  Dean Joel Silverman

Weds   2:00-5:00 pm Dean Mark Schenker

Thurs 1:00-3:45 pm Dean Mark Schenker

Fri       1:00-5:00 pm  Dean Joel Silverman

I have a small Dean’s section with important deadlines to share, so please read on…

Àshe,
HL

may the tide
that is entering even now
the lip of our understanding
carry you out
beyond the face of fear
may you kiss
the wind then turn from it
certain that it will
love your back     may you
open your eyes to water
water waving forever
and may you in your innocence
sail through this to that
