TIMOTHY DWIGHT NOTES & NEWS

WEEK OF 5/2/22

HL’S PIECES

Dear Red Lions,

Greetings on a very wet Monday!  Believe it or not we are in Reading Week… though having Spring Fling on a Monday has probably made that hard to believe.

But thanks to our SAC we had a great TD Day!  Our “photo of the week” features TDers Kunsang Dorjee and Gabrielle Barnes serenading Miss Rose (Rose Colon) on her retirement!

Also on this past gorgeous weekend, TD First-Years and Olympics co-captains Mia Rodrigues-Vars and Pranava Dhar led our first-year lions with great energy and enthusiasm!

We also had a great TD Senior Sushi Night despite the rain last week!

Please remember that this Wednesday 5/4 is our Senior Dinner with a special surf and turf menu in the TD Dining Hall so non-TD seniors will need to dine at another residential college.  Here again is the schedule for the evening:

4:30pm Cocktail Reception at the TD House Patio

5:30pm Senior Class Photo on the Upper Courtyard

6:00pm Senior Dinner in the TD Dining Hall

Please note that in the case of rain, we will do a make up class photo shoot on Thursday 5/5 at 4:30pm.

Here is a tentative list of study breaks for the next two weeks:

Tuesday 5/3 9pm            SAC Study Break (Thompson Room)

Tuesday 5/3 9:45pm       Ten Minute Courtyard Dance Party (Lower Courtyard)

Wednesday 5/4 9pm       SAC Study Break (Thompson Room)

Thursday 5/5 10pm         TD Pizza Delivery (Thompson Room)

Please note we will have pizza every night at 10pm until the last night of finals.

Friday 5/6 8am-10:00am Hot Breakfast to Start Exams (TD Dining Hall)

Monday 5/9 5pm            Jump Rope Study Break with Simone Koch Costa (TD Walkway)

Without further ado, here is a word from Dean Mahurin…

Àshe,

HL

END OF TERM WORK: some critical information!

As we turn toward the final frontier of the semester, please keep the specifics of the calendar in mind.  Reading period runs until May 5, and this is also the deadline for all course assignments other than term papers and term projects.  Final exams begin that night, and will continue through May 11.  At that point, you can congratulate yourself on getting through this academic year and run headlong into whatever summer holds.

I want to emphasize that May 11 is also the final possible date for the submission of term papers and term projects.  Of course, individual instructors may set deadlines for earlier than this date, even as they have full discretion to set deadlines as late as this date.  Beyond that, coursework may be submitted only with a Temporary Incomplete from me (permitted in only a limited range of circumstances: contact me to see if you qualify); your instructor cannot set deadlines or issue extensions for beyond May 19, even in graduate or professional school courses.  Yale College considers such deadlines and extensions invalid, and the work will not be counted toward your grade. Postponing a scheduled final examination also requires my intervention.  In addition to the circumstances that permit Temporary Incompletes, you may elect to postpone a final exam if you have three exams scheduled within four time slots, or if you have three exams scheduled within the first two days of the final examination period.

As always, if you find yourself in any kind of trouble relating to the submission of work or the taking of exams, let me know right away – I’m very happy to consult on these points.  More than that, I’m happy – for all of us! – that we are rounding this last corner.  You’ve got this.
