TIMOTHY DWIGHT NOTES & NEWS

WEEK OF 3/25/2024

HL’S PIECES

Dear Red Lions,

I hope you all had a wonderful break and are rested and ready to be back for part 2 of our spring semester.

Our “photo of the week” comes from TD Fellow and Yale Athletics Director, Vicky Chun, who took this wonderful selfie with her first year advisee, Trevor Mullins TD ’27, right after their spectacular, heart-stopping win over Brown to clinch the Ivy Championship title.  Congratulations to Trevor, Devin Arlington TD ‘26, Coach Justin Simon, and the Yale Men’s basketball team on their championship title and their big first round win against Auburn!!!!  While last night’s round 2 game against SDSU did not go their way, there is no taking away these amazing accomplishments to cap off a great season!  Go Bulldogs!

Tickets for the Chubb event with Ta-Nehisi Coates at Battell Chapel are now sold out.  But if you are interested in attending the Ta-Nehisi Coates post-lecture dinner, please sign up here to enter the lottery.  The Google Form will close on Thursday at 11:59pm and we will announce the recipients by Friday 3/29.

For everyone living on campus, you might have noticed new stickers in your rooms to remind you NOT to hang anything on the sprinklers.  If you missed it, here is a close up of one!

Return of the Native
Sun Yung Shin

Because of time being an arrow, I had to imagine everything.
I had to fold the song with my mind because of the time being. Wash the rice here, in the present.
Because of the arrow I pent up the fourth wall as though I were diapering my own newborn.
I put time to the breast, though I feared it was not an arrow but an asp.
Being time I kept that fear under my tongue like a thermometer. I felt its mercury rolling under my teeth, boiling like language.
A deaf man, an old man, I am his hand, rough and gentle, an arrow here and then.
Time, I can see what I feel.
In the future even your future becomes my past. Arrow, I have died. There is peace. I pull it from me like a blanket.
As in a dream, because of time being an arrow, I put on the dress of a young, lovely mother. Because of her, because of the time, here I am, always watching over you.
