TIMOTHY DWIGHT NOTES & NEWS

WEEK OF 2/5/2024

HL’S PIECES

Dear Red Lions,

We are so excited to host Jill Ellis this 2/9 for our Chubb Fellowship!  If you are still looking to get a ticket, please go to this link.

Last week was a truly busy week!  We started off with TD Community Night with so many first-time performers, resumed our Senior Mellon Forum series, and ended with the Mott Ski Trip and an outing to the Shubert theater!  As a result, the “photo of the week” submissions had my inbox bursting at the seams and it was not easy to choose one.  So here is this week’s official one from Martine Dosa of the ski trip bus!

But for more photos and videos of Community Night, please go to this folder.

Of course, none of these amazing things happen without the incredible support of our paid TD student aides team.  So if you are interested in continuing to support all we do, please consider applying for the team next year using this form.  The application closes on Friday 2/9 at 11:59pm.

It’s time to plan our TD Sophomore Dinner!  If you are interested in serving on the committee, please email me at mary.lui@yale.edu.  We are planning on early March.

Please don’t forget that February is “Invite Your Professor to Dinner” month!  Each student is allowed one opportunity to bring a faculty member, TF, PI, thesis advisor, or PI to dinner in the TD Dining Hall.  Just sign in your guest at the check-in desk.
Here are some important dates and events for this week and next:

Tuesday 2/6 10:00-11:00 pm Listening Session, hosted by the Student Advisory Committee for Next Head of College (TD Buttery)

Students on the Advisory Committee for the Next Head of College will be hosting a listening session this Tuesday in the buttery. They are interested in learning about what qualities students would like to see in the next Head of College. This feedback will be shared with the broader advisory committee. As a reminder, you are always welcome to submit feedback via this survey, as well.

Friday 2/9 Chubb Events with Jill Ellis (SOM and TD Dining Hall)

The tickets for the Jill Ellis, our Chubb Fellowship speaker, at SOM is now open to the general public.  But there may still be tickets. The conversation will go from 4-5:15pm at the SOM’s Zhang Auditorium.  Doors will open at 3:30pm for seating.  The dinner lottery results have already been announced.

Saturday 2/10 11:59pm Deadline for Mott Woolley Valentines Grams

Send candy and a message to 1 or 2 friends, suitehearts, and sweethearts in TD!   The Mott Woolley Council will deliver a bag of candy, your message, and good vibes to the specified suite on the evening of Monday 2/12 to any TDer living on campus.  To order your Valentines Gram, please go to this form.

Sunday 2/11 IRIS Run for Refugees (East Rock Park/Wilbur Cross High School)

TD is once again offering 20 spots to support the IRIS Run for Refugees on Sunday 2/11 at Wilbur Cross High School, in the East Rock neighborhood.  The 5k raises important funds for IRIS (Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services) to provide essential services to the city’s newest arrivals such as housing, healthcare, job placement, education, and much more.  To sign up please go to this form and enter the special code “TD24”.Please do not share the code with non-TD students as the TD budget subsidizes these events.  Spots are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Wednesday 2/14 9-10pm Valentine’s Day Special (TD Buttery)

Need a little last minute treat or scrumptious gift?  The TD Buttery is bringing back their succulent Valentine’s Day tradition of serving up delectable, hand-dipped chocolate covered strawberries ($1 each).  Enjoy!

Saturday 2/17 Bracelet-Making Workshop (TD Art Studio)

Back by popular demand, our TD’s Art Studio Aides will be hosting a bracelet-making workshop!  Be sure to stop by the studio for a quick, creative study break! All materials will be provided, including beads, thread, wire, and more.

Without further ado, here is a word from Dean Mahurin…

Àshe,
HL

We’ll provide all of the training, support, equipment, and vibes needed to prepare you. Everyone graduating in December 2025 or later is eligible to apply.

You can access the application on FOOT’s website under “Apply to Lead” (yale.edu/foot, due on Sunday, February 11th at 23:59 ET), and please reach out to the student coordinators Ben and Ketty at poobahs@gmail.com with any questions.
