TIMOTHY DWIGHT NOTES & NEWS

WEEK OF 1/29/2024

HL’S PIECES

Dear Red Lions,

We had a wonderful tea this afternoon with pastry chef and food entrepreneur Lauren Tran and her husband/partner, Garland Wong.  Here they are with their signature pandan coconut chiffon cake, just before the audience descended and gobbled up every single morsel!

Our “photo of the week” features Connor Lee TD ‘23/24 and Ben Scher ’23 cheering on Sophomore lion, Jose Cano Figueroa, on his 2nd place finish in the 200 freestyle event at this past Saturday’s victorious meet against George Washington.  Congratulations also to first-year lion, Charlie Egeland, for his first-place wins in the breaststroke events.  Well done Yale Swimming!

We are getting ready to hire a new team of TD student aides for the 2024-5 academic year!  If you are interested in applying, please take a look at these Aides positions.  I will be sending out the online application later this week.  The applications close on Friday 2/9 at 11:59pm.

We are making February “Invite Your Professor to Dinner” month!  This will be the same as last semester.  TDers may invite one professor to dinner on TD.  TDers on the meal plan may swipe in and then sign in their professor with the desk attendant.  Off-campus students may also participate and have the dinner subsidized by the college once they and their professors have signed in with the desk attendant.

Here are some important dates and events for this week and next:

Tuesday 1/30 5:30pm TD Senior Mellon Forum Resumes (TD House)

Our amazing Senior Lions – Alice Ao, Meg Dreany, and Christina Young – will be presenting on their independent research projects.  Doors open for dinner at 5:30pm!

Tuesday 1/30 8:30-10:30pm TD Spring Community Night (TD Dining Hall)

We have an amazing line up for this spring’s TD Community Night!  Expect magic, music, mayhem, and more!  Pizza intermission should fuel us through the night!  Come early and grab a seat!

We have announced the results of this lottery.  The lucky 15 recipients now have until Wednesday at noon to pick up their tickets.  Any unclaimed tickets will go to the waitlist on a first-come, first-served basis!

Friday 2/9 Chubb Events with Jill Ellis (SOM and TD Dining Hall)

The tickets for the Jill Ellis, our Chubb Fellowship speaker, at SOM is now open to the general public.  But you can still get your ticket. The conversation will go from 4-5:15pm at the SOM’s Zhang Auditorium.  Doors will open at 3:30pm for seating.  To enter the lottery for a seat at dinner, please go to this Google Form. Sign-ups will close on Wednesday 1/31.  Results will be announced by Friday 2/2.

Saturday 2/17 3-5pm Bracelet-Making Workshop (TD Art Studio)

Back by popular demand, our TD’s Art Studio Aides will be hosting a bracelet-making workshop!  Be sure to stop by the studio for a quick, creative study break!
