TD Notes and News – Week of 11/14

Head of College’s Pieces

Dear Red Lions,

As we head into our last week of class before the Thanksgiving break, please note that we have a busy week of events in the college with 2 teas, senior mellon forum, and “A Night at Hogsmeade”!

This week’s “photo of the week” is titled “Song Exploder” and features composer and podcast host, Hrishikesh Hirway ’00, with TD seniors Jordan Plotner and Ben Fischer and our family who are all huge fans of his show.  At the tea, we greatly enjoyed his behind the scenes take on his podcast with musicians talking about their creative work.

This coming weekend is also the big Harvard-Yale game.  Everyone who plans to stay in our sister college, Leverett House, should fill out the housing form if you haven’t already done so.  Only folks who couldn’t access the form the first time needs to click on this new link to get to the same form.

Here are the events for the week:

Monday 11/14 4:30pm Tea with Hrishikesh Hirway, host of Song Exploder (TD House)

If you missed out on this tea, please feel free to go to his website where you can play and download his podcast episodes.

Thursday 11/17 4:30pm Tea with Jonathan Bailey, “A Conversation on Sustainable Investing” (TD House)

Jonathan Bailey has vast experience in the area of sustainable investment and joined FCLT (Focusing Capital on the Long Term) Global from McKinsey & Company’s New York Office where he was an Associate Partner.  Joining Jonathan Bailey will be Jack McGinn, TD ’16, who will also be sharing his experiences working in this field since joining McKinsey following his graduation.  This event is co-sponsored with the Dwight Hall Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) Fund at Yale.

Thursday 11/17 10pm A Night at Hogsmeade (TD Buttery)

As a proper send off to break, the Buttery and friends are putting on some great Hogwartsian fun to get everyone geared up for the new HP movie, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Come enjoy chocolate frogs, Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans, and butter beer.  Feel free to dress up for this fun night!

Next week we will be serving Thanksgiving dinner in the TD House with turkey and vegetarian and vegan options on Thursday at 3pm.  Please know that all TDers who are here for the week are welcome to come.  No RSVP necessary! We would love to see you here and celebrate and share this wonderful meal together.

When we return from the Thanksgiving break, we will be looking forward to the November 30th Chubb lecture and student dinner with Ambassador João Vale de Almeida, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the United Nations in New York since 2015.  We completed the lottery drawing this past Friday and everyone who received a place for the dinner has been notified. If anyone missed out on entering the lottery for the Chubb dinner but would still like to attend, please email our senior administrator at karen.mcgovern@yale.edu, and she will put you on the waitlist.

Without further ado, here is a word from Dean Mahurin…

Áshe,

HoC Lui

We’re currently looking for students of racial minority backgrounds who have personal or family experience with mental illness and are comfortable discussing their experiences in a public setting. If you’re interested in being one of the panelists, please email audrey.luo@yale.edu or sreeja.kodali@yale.edu for more details.
