TIMOTHY DWIGHT NOTES & NEWS

WEEK OF 4/1/2024

HL’S PIECES

Dear Red Lions,

I hope you all enjoyed this morning’s April Fool’s note… and it really is a joke… we will not be opening up the clocktower next week!

Our “photo of the week” comes from across the TD Community:

First-Year Lion Coby Barrow…

Dr. B…
Hopefully these spring photos will tie you over as we run for cover from the rain this week!

Congratulations and gratitude to our TD sophomore committee (AJ Nakash, Kris Aziabor, Arjun Warrior, Victoria Zapata Quintero, Michaela Kroon, and Martine Dosa) and the TD staff for organizing a delicious sophomore dinner at the recently opened Chef Jiang on Whitney Avenue.

As you’ll see below… we have many amazing things happening this semester as I close out my term as your TD HoC.  Of particular note are the Avatar dinner with special guests on Wednesday 4/10 and a once-in-a-lifetime Lincoln Center field trip to attend an open rehearsal with violin virtuoso and 2021 Chubb Fellow Hilary Hahn for Thursday 4/25!  See below for more info on how you can enter the lottery for these events.  And, of course, TD’s legendary Berry Brunch will be on Sunday 4/14!!!

So grab a seat, put up your feet and take your time reading through this week’s Notes and News

Monday 4/1 6-7pm Barbie and American Girl Dinner (TD Thompson Room)

Join our wonderful TD Graduate Affiliate, Louise Oelofse, who is an MBA student in Yale School of Management, discuss her work with Mattel on the Barbie promotional campaign this past summer.  She’ll be joined by Niagara Pal, also an MBA student at SOM, who worked on American Girl!  The two will discuss their postgraduate path into the world of toys and marketing.

Tuesday 4/2 5:15pm TD Senior Mellon Forum (TD House)

We are down to our last two Mellon Forum presentations!  This week we have four Senior Lions:  Selin Goren, Siddharth Jain, Peyton Meyer, and Grace Miller!

Thursday 4/4 11:59pm Deadline to register for Hilary Hahn Open Rehearsal (Lincoln Center)

If you’ve always wanted a behind-the-scenes look at one of the top violinists and orchestras in the world, this is your chance.  Hilary Hahn has invited us to attend her “Sounds of Spain”concert rehearsal with the NY Phil.

Friday 4/5 Chubb Events with Ta-Nehisi Coates (Battell Chapel and TD Dining Hall)

The Ta-Nehisi Coates post-lecture dinner lottery results have been sent out.  We are excited for Friday night – the reading/talk at Battell at 5pm followed by the Chubb dinner!  Please remember that the DH will be closed after Friday’s lunch service in order to set up for the special Chubb dinner.  We apologize for any inconvenience.

Sunday 4/7 5-7pm Mott TD Merch Sale during Family Dinner (Common Room)

Mott is hosting their final gear sale of the year this Sunday’s Family Dinner.  Come by to purchase your TD merch before you head off for the summer!!!

Tuesday 4/9 TD Mellon Forum (TD House)

Our last Mellon Forum of the year!  We’ll have our last four presenters and celebrate a great year of projects with sushi, cake, and champagne!

Wednesday 4/10 Eli Whitney Reunion Dinner (TD Thompson Room)

Mott has organized a first-ever reunion dinner for our TD EW students and alumni!  Look forward to welcoming our alums back to campus!  Any questions, please contact our Mott co-presidents, Martine Dosa & Michaela Kroon, at martine.dosa@yale.edu or Michaela.kroon@yale.edu.

Thursday 4/10 7-8:15pm Avatar Dinner with special guests Michaela Julia Murphy andBryan Konietzko (TD House)

We are excited to have Michaela Julia Murphy, the voice of Toph, join us for a special dinner next week.  Bryan Konietzko, one of the co-creators of Avatar will be zooming in during the evening.  Senior Lions will recall that Bryan was a virtual tea guest in their first year so he is no stranger to TD.  He is excited to Zoom in and join Michaela for a talk.  Because this will be in the TD House, space will be limited so you must go to this link to register for the lottery.  The form will close at 11:59pm on Thursday and we will announce results by noon on Friday 4/5.

Friday 4/12 4:30pm Spin Class with TD Grad Affiliate Audrey Amezcua-Smith (PWG)

Save the date… back by popular demand… our TD Grad Affiliate Audrey Amezcua-Smith will host another spin class for TD students.  A distance runner, foodie, licensed scuba diver, she also happens to be a trained spin instructor!  The event is entirely free and will take place on the 5th floor of PWG.  Audrey has room for 10 participants for this workout, please sign up here.

Sunday 4/14 11-1:30pm TD Berry Brunch (TD Dining Hall)

One of the most beloved TD traditions… a delicious brunch served up with love and care from our amazing TD Dining Hall staff!  And berries galore to welcome spring!  Menu will be forthcoming… for now, just put it on your calendars!

Without further ado, here is a word from Dean Mahurin…

Àshe,
HL
